Alaska Images (Photographed During 2000)
Cordova, Alaska is only accessible by air or water. We took the state ferry from Whitier to Cordova during the first week of May 2000 to see and photograph the shorebird migration as well as the numerous other birds and animals that are easily visible along the road system.

Approximately five million shorebirds pass through the Copper River Delta each spring. The most common species are western sandpipers and dunlin. The vast mudflats on the Copper River Delta provide a rich food source for migrating shorebirds. The birds gather in large numbers to feed during low tide.

The Dalton Highway provides easy access to parts of Arctic Alaska. The Brooks Range may not be as awsome as some of the other mountain ranges in the state, but it has long been one of my favorite regions. Mount Sukapak, north of Wiseman, is a dominant part of the landscape of the southern Brooks Range along the highway. Here you may also see the spires of Mount Snowden, and Mount Dillon reflected in a lake.
